Givenchy Haute Couture F/W 2019.20 Paris

I can tell that she definitely put more effort into it this time. It's not a successful collection, but it's an improvement conceptually. Unfortunately It seems that this is the best she can do. I would like to see Olivier Theyskens take over. He's proven that he can do interesting and wearable clothes.

^Such a shame it wasn't her who went to Burberry, I think that would be a better fit for her because she wouldn't have to create couture and to me her work always has that British vibe. On the other hand, I really believe that she'll finally reach the point where she's comfortable enough to really explore the possibilities of ateliers and this collection is a good sign so...

Clare isn't a bad designer, this is just a bad fit. She should really consider going to a smaller house. I think she would do great in New York or London. I say it every season and I'll say it again, she's over her head at Givenchy.

She should go to Sonia Rykiel.
Her clothes were the most beautiful and desirable when she was at Chloe. I get that she is ambitious (like everybody who worked with Tom Ford) but sometimes it’s better to be real with yourself.
Riccardo had a personality and he can bring his personality anywhere and it will have an impact.

Her clothes doesn’t have any personality. It’s so forced!
Couture is a sensibility. Not everybody can do Couture.
You have to have something to say. The greats understood first and foremost the lifestyle of the Couture clients.
Clare’s evolution doesn’t seem to follow anything.
One year ago, it was super practical and now, it’s extravaganza...

I couldn't disagree more, her Chloe collections were boring and forgettable and she rode Hannah MacGibbon's coattails and vision for her entire tenure there.

At Givenchy she is showing us what SHE has to offer. Love it or hate it, at least it's a unique perspective in a very banal fashion period.

Her collections remain very womanly, very chic, very powerful. I liked seeing her venture out of her comfort zone here -- she's never going to be a master of avant garde, but I could see the vision and cohesiveness of her ideas here that kept it from being a failed showing. A bit of nature and dishevel to each look that was quite fun.

Even if the collections were forgettable. Her clothes very beautiful and more in tune with a modern woman than what she is doing now.
This 80’s thing she is pushing in RTW is clashing with whatever she is doing in Couture.
As boring as it was, her Chloe was identifiable.
Nobody will remember her Givenchy.

There is a hit-and-miss element about most of her collections but I still manage to find a handful of successful outfits that convey the pure and architectural tailoring she seeks to establish for Givenchy. I can see what she is trying to say about the brand, if anything at all I feel that the menswear comes as a distraction of all this, especially since she insists on showing a men's couture as well.

In spite of the lack of focus, the tailored skirt suit at the beggining, the Cruella feather cape, the mint dress on Sarah Grace and particularly the third to last lace dress were couture highlights for me. I like the strictness of her clothes, it stands out from Valentino's matronly curtains of ruffles or Dior's unsubstantive organza's, these are clothes that catch my eye yet don't make me feel dizzy after scrolling through 10 looks.

This is an exquisite collection, and even years after, I still dream of these looks. I miss Clare's work! I hope she returns soon. Does anyone know what she is doing these days?
