I expected to be disappointed and he did everything that could piss me off but I actually really like that. The usual silhouettes are present, the skirts are all out, the heavy printing, the obvious music inspiration but if you look closer it’s actually much more interesting than it looks like. As I looked at the picture I kept thinking about AstroBoy, robots, techno as in technology but also as in music (with that recorder print) and new rave. Yet unexpectedly he decided to pair it with an ethnic inspiration and Zulu prints. The prints both clash and match each other. I don’t know if the oxymoron of pairing these 2 worlds was intentional. I’d like to think it was (makes the collection much more interesting) and so he used it as a reflection on the difference between those 2 worlds and how to make them work together. As for the excessive printing it almost looks like a new take on camouflage and trompe l’oeil with those looks where can’t identify what is what. And finally I find the color palette very refreshing: the beige, the blue and especially the orange.
