It doesn’t yet have a replacement for outgoing designer Julien Macdonald, but Givenchy does have a collection — confected by an anonymous studio — which it showed at a presentation at its headquarters on Wednesday. Inspired by Louise Dahl Wolfe’s photographs and a breezy Forties and Fifties American sportswear-meets-French-chic style, the line was focused on capturing the house’s legacy for sophisticated elegance. To wit: Many of the pieces, from a raffia bolero to the inside-out gingham sundresses, looked as if they had been pulled straight from the archives. Nautical details abounded — underscored by a seaside decor with striped beach chairs — on sailor trousers, sundresses with thick rope belts and long gowns with contrasting piping and capes. The pieces had charm, but lacked the vitality one hopes Macdonald’s replacement will bring to this venerable, but hibernating, brand.

has anyone seen more pics of this collection? I didn't see any on the Vogue US or Vogue UK websites.

*bump*

maybe someone's seen more pics of this presentation?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I read somewhere that Sophia Kokosolaki would be the creative director :innocent:

An official announcement hasn't come yet...the finalists are Sophia, Isaac Mizrahi, Roland Mouret, and Zac Posen.

There's a thread about the finalists...

this was from WWD after her show:

SOPHIA’S CHOICE: Sophia Kokosalaki had some intriguing characters in the front row of her Paris show Tuesday night: Givenchy president Marco Gobbetti and LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton talent scout Concetta Lanciaux. Asked if they were considering the London-based designer to fill a slot vacant since Julien Macdonald exited in April, the pair demurred, waving off the question with a laugh. “I don’t like naming names,” Gobbetti said. He only promised to make an announcement “by the end of the year.” It is understood that Givenchy is still evaluating several potential candidates, including Isaac Mizrahi, Zac Posen and Roland Mouret.

and this from FWD on 10/6:

Heightening the atmosphere were reports that Givenchy were keen to hire Kokosalaki as the new women’s ready-to-wear designer for the house. And where there is smoke there is fire, as Marco Gobbetti, Givenchy president, and Jean Jacques the heading hunting elf of LVMH, the conglomerate that owns the house, were both in the audience.

Asked when he would name a new designer at Givenchy, Gobbetti told FWD: “She’s a great talent, but far too many names have been talked about. Now is the time for silence.”

as far as I know, no official announcement has been made.

really like that one piece I see. Can't wait to see more photos

What scares me is that the dress pictured, "confected by an anonymous studio", could easily get onto MJs catwalk without anyone noticing...
