I have to echo everyone's positive feedback, because this is one hell of an issue! I never really paid attention to men's magazines, still am not overly interested since men's fashion bores me to death - but when the editorials are as good as this, it's hard not to notice.

^^^ GQ China is continuing the breadth of creative fashion vision standards set by past glorious masters L'UOMO/Another Man/Arena Homme Plus. It’s not all killers, as some fillers will be inevitable since it’s a monthly release. And again, it would be great to see the occasional White/ME/Latin presence in the fashions stories, just to change up the beauty of men. However, I get why China— and Korea, are so insistent on supporting their own; since despite all the hot air that western rags blows about representation, they’ve shown that East Asian presence is usually reduced to a token representation, even if it’s a demographic that is keeping the fashion system very well-fed. It’s such a great FU to the hypocrisy and discrimination of western fashion rags (amongst other institutions…) since not only are the professional and creative talents superior— but the consumer power is also superior. Rather than cry, complain and whine about not being represented, they simply go about producing superior content and a robust product that’s always plump with mostly 250 - 300+ pagecount, with their own people.

Although not a fashion story, just look at how the GQ Chinese team showcase a skincare story, from the same January issue. Talk about thinking outside the box— and still delivering the goods:

I like it a lot but every single editorial feels very 2011, it's crazy!!!

I have lots of GQ China old issues and this feels like it's not 2024, everything visually wise feels passé.

I'm not mad at it, it's just my own observation, but you can CLEARLY see there's a strong eye and money involved into making this issue.

Astounding! Love all of it. New Order reminds me a bit of Michael Philouze. He's such a tremendous stylist and knows how to communicate menswear.

I'm so relieved to see that this edition is still keeping up the same editorial quality they used to have 3/4 years ago. They put in 200% for every editorial and it shows.
