there's a certain physical "grace" or a certain way some women carry themselves that it just seems so...for lack of a thesaurus, "graceful." there's real beauty in their movement. i notice alot of ballet dancers or dancers in general have this. is it something i can figure out? is it genes? good breeding? what?

can anybody help me out???

thanks.

Flexibility I think helps, which explains the dancers. Children tend to be more graceful and more flexible that adults. It helps people move ... this is gonna be hard to explain but with the Earth instead of plodding on top of it.

Start stretching! Activities such as dance, yoga, and any sort of stretching exercise will help your posture, which, in turn, helps you move smoother and more gracefully.

And Sienna is very right about walking with the ground. It sounds weird, but just walk with it, rather than tramping along.

I think it is very much what everyone else has already said. Ballet, or any dance in general, really, teaches you both fantastic posture, and stretching results in flexibility of movement, something dance also accomplishes. Though grace can be achieved through different activities, I don't believe it can be gained by saying to onself, "I'm going to move gracefully today," and trying to encorporate this attribute into your natural movement. It's much more natural than that. And I do think dance will encourage your movements to become more free, uninhibited, and, well, graceful.

Ballerinas! I would love to do ballet for this reason! So I'm not such a klutz anymore and could look graceful for the first time in mylife!
I agree that posture has a lot to do with it though. I'm trying to improve my posture.

This is a very intersting thread! I've had people notice me from far away and comment "She MUST be a dancer!" - even in my daggy fast food uniform! Very strange.

I have never done ballet, but I've done other styles such as contemporary and jazz since my early teens. From when I was 3 - 15 years old I did a style of dance/movement similar to calisthenics called Physical Culture.

I find it so strange. People generally comment that I have great posture, yet, in reality, my posture is terrible!! I have a "banana back" as well as Scoliosis. I'm also very unflexible!
