From Miami Herald:
She leads the glamorous life
We're hearing a lot about Tropical Storm Hanna lately. Hana Soukupova packs a different kind of punch. The Czech model, 22, appears in this month's Ocean Drive essentially naked, her bottom half swathed in Wolford fish-net tights.
We chatted with Soukupova -- who is married to New York businessman Drew Aaron -- about her model life. Yup, it's just as fabulous as it sounds.
The age old question: How do you stay thin?
``I'd say it's a mix between hard work, genetics and keeping the right diet. When you stay away from fried food, bagels, pasta, fast food, etc., you don't have as much to burn off. I work out at a minimum of one to two hours a day (primarily cardio) and do some light weights and have a great trainer.''
What's your favorite indulgence?
``I'm not much of a dessert junkie. Once you stop eating sweets for a few months, you don't really crave them. I love peanut butter, and if you catch me on the wrong day, I can eat two jars and call it dinner.''
What is being a model like?
``Many people think we party until 5 a.m. and sleep all day. In reality, we spend most of our time traveling around the world, rushing to make a flight, going back and forth from Europe to Asia several times a week, and waking up at 6 a.m. for a 7:30 a.m. call when you have to look your best even if you are struggling with jet lag and trying to remember what country you're in.''
Is there a secret of success?
``It isn't about the prettiest girl with the best body; it's about the ones who are hungry enough and are willing to pay their dues to make it happen. You don't become a top model overnight, and you must always keep in mind that you can always be replaced. It takes many years, walking down countless runways, hundreds of shoots and thousands of magazines.''
Who are your inspirations?
``I work with the IMG agency, which represents girls like Gisele Bündchen and
Kate Moss who have been doing this longer than I have, so I get the benefit of not only watching what they have done but also how they have continued to grow their careers in the right direction.''
What are the perks?
``I love to work, and I love to be busy, and it pays off, whether it's an exotic shoot in Australia or Africa or getting to see different parts of the world that a girl from a humble background would never get to experience. The other perks aren't half bad, either. I was able to buy my first apartment in New York at the age of 19 and built my parents a home outside of Prague in hopes that they wouldn't need for anything.''
Do you get noticed a lot?
``I will embarrassingly share that when I go to a newsstand and see a picture of myself or have a flight attendant bring me the duty free catalog and ask if it is me in the perfume ad, though I try to hide the smile, it's flattering.''
What's a Miami must?
``Art Basel -- I'll be there! I just hope they find a way to control the traffic on Collins Avenue.''
What do you do when you're here?
``I love to escape to Miami for a weekend with some friends to get away and enjoy the weather. There's nothing better than when a client sends a plane for you and all the girls in the shoot for a few days in South Beach. Five years ago it was the Shore Club with the great pool scene and the convenience of dining at Nobu, and adjourning to Sky Bar without ever having to leave your hotel.''
Any great memories?
``I remember when it was all about the Delano. When you're five girls all from different countries trying to get a quick Saturday tan, it's amazing some of the things that people will say to you. Everyone is drinking champagne before noon, and it's fun to hold court while other girls do laps around the pool in high heels and bikinis. We'd always get interesting evening proposals!''
Where do you stay now?
``When I'm there for work, and I know that I need good sleep and some peace and quiet, I typically stay at the Setai, which is extremely private, has a great spa and always makes for a relaxing visit. I also like to stay around Collins as you can go place to place, whether it's drinks at the Raleigh then swinging by Rokbar for some great '80s music on your way home.''
