Ray's putting on the style
WHEN Ray Costarella's couture creations hit the catwalk at Australian Fashion Week in Sydney, they won't be the only WA-made products on show.
Mr Costarella's solo parade on April 26 will be an all-WA affair – with leading local make-up artist Hendra Widjaja, award-winning hairdresser Lee Preston, jewels from Rosendorff, specially designed shoes by Perth-based accessories company Sachi and leading local models.
"It's a real showcase of WA talent," Mr Costarella said.
"I want to support the team that has always supported me, and when you've got people like Hendra and Lee, it makes sense to take them with you."
Mr Costarella, who was named WA Designer of the Year in 2005 after 21 years at the helm of his label, received widespread acclaim for one of the best collections at last year's Fashion Week.
His exquisite new collection, titled Mirror Mirror, was inspired by Edwardian and art deco pieces and will be showcased on the catwalk by 11 WA women from model agency Viviens, including Allegra Carpenter,
Hannah Fell, Tiah Eckhardt, Sophie Ward and Holly Caulio.
"We've got a huge surprise planned for the opening of the show, but I can't say any more than that," he said.
Other WA labels to be shown include Preacher, Story By Tang, Joveeba, Material Boy and One Fell Swoop.
Australian Fashion Week will run from April 26 to 30.
