Harper’s Bazaar Australia August 2019 : Naomi Watts by Darren McDonald

'Naomi Watts is just getting started'? She's been getting started since Mulholland Drive and it's just not happening for her, is it? Not even being BFFs with Nicole Kidman helped her. In fact, it only succeeded in selling Nicole more to women, and proving that she is not frigid.

This is one of those generic 'Bazaar cover' covers. The pose, the dress, the colours, etc. It could be from 1999 or 2009 and we'd be none the wiser. I like the fan blown hair and trimmed ends, at least.

Why belittle her achievements like that? She’s done some great work throughout her career. I wouldn’t class someone who’s been cast as the lead in one of the most eagerly awaited TV projects of recent years as ‘not having happened’.

Well, its ultimately a matter of opinion and mine was in relation to the cryptic coverline which can be interpreted in many ways. I'm well aware of her work and in fact Mulholland and 21 Grams are probably my favourites, but next to her peers her track record pales in comparison.

As for an Oscar nomination equating fame/success? No comment.

Wait, so you don't think getting nominated for an Academy Award is an achievement or a mark of success? Not that I think the Academy is exactly the pinnacle of great taste, but surely getting nominated twice should count for something.

I'm assuming the coverline is in reference to Watts "tackling the role of #beauty businesswoman" which is explained below the cover.

I also think you're making a mistake comparing Watts to her peers. She's successful in her own right and you're setting her up for a loss if you start comparing her to Nicole Kidman. Considering she spent the majority of the '90s struggling to get a substantial part, I could only imagine that she is happy with where she is career-wise, no?

The fact you belittled her achievement is not a matter of opinion. Liking or disliking a film she has done would be matter of opinion, saying she has achieved nothing when the woman has spent years working, I would presume very hard, to establish a career is not a matter of opinion, it’s simply being rude.

I won’t even comment on the pitting her against Nicole for comparison.

Naomi Watts is a lot of things, but a visionary she's not.
I like her, but she's also colder than Moscow in December.
Cate Blanchett and Nicole must have been busy.....cute cover tho.

I wish there was less hair covering her face and that the background & dress weren't the same color

She's going to be starring in the Game of Thrones Prequel. I suppose "just getting starting" sounds better than "starting over".

Wow, that subscriber cover looks stunning!!
