Harper’s Bazaar France March 2023 by Mario Sorrenti

I just hope that their distribution worldwide and in France will be good, because my newsagent in london told me that he never got bazaar Italy for instance.

Wow. I remember the times when the launch of a new magazine meant at least 2 years of exciting content.
I had so much hope for this.....Mr. Sorrenti feels very tired and tiring....
In a nutshell, I came to be impressed but I leave depressed.

the preview is up on super fast speed onto their IG, so i am quite fedup to compile images from adobe premier in photoshop but there is only way to share it...
So it`s super lame and boring, covers aren`t repeating inside the issue, only in medium isize in contents. So if you like few covers as i do with 2 and 3 you`d better purchase two issues

i am posting masthead as well so you know contributors

its Olivier Lalanne as EIC
Elovie David Touboul
as fashion director as you assumed from covers. i wonder if she exit from Self service, i hope so, because she is way too mediocre for my favorite magazine)
and Frank Durand as creative director. Wondering whats gonna happen to holiday magazine now, my second favorite? He was creative director and the man behind it since the beginning, dont think he can handle both publications. And since he is Emmanuelle Alt husband, i guess we will see Emmanuelle in bazaar soon.

there is 3 fashion stories inside, one 24 pages by Sorrenti, too zara catalog for me as he did it few years ago. I dont see any appealing images, its only 2 and 3 covers

One editorial by Bibi Borthwick with some utm gal

and JOnathan Frantini ed with Beauise Ferwerda and other gal

thats pretty much it, but i am happy, because my bet that this mag wont provide anything purchase-worthy, so i dont have to buy it every month, futhermore i guess they re selling only in France since its Prisma Media whos selling only small weeklies like gala, they just dont have a big distribution channels and i guess they wont sell in internationally at least not from the beginning

Such a strong team they have and the preview just looks great, so much better than the Italian in my opinion.

It already surpasses French Vogue from these previews alone. I actually quite like the stories and would love to get this issue, I hope it's going to be available where I live.

3 stories for a launch ???? PLEASE... what a joke of a magazine lol. Vogue France is equally bland anyways.
HAIL Elle France which doesn't say much about the current state of French fashion magazines of the french fashion industry actually!!!!!

Some of you may not know this but HUGE french stores for shoes and clothes closed all across France (they had many many stores in every big city in France:( and every french person knows these stores' names.)
- San Marina
- Camaïeu
- Kookaï
- André
- GoSport

AND TODAY they announced in France that ''Les Galleries Lafayette'' (which is the equivalent of ''Harrods'' in England if you will or ''El Corte Inglés'' in Spain) is ALSO on the brink of closing because of bad sales across the country.

So to me seeing this situation with our major french stores coupled with the bad magazine industry well it doesn't make me think that everything is ''good'' in the fashion industry of France, no matter what people think when they associate LVMH with the whole french fashion world. Louis Vuitton / Chanel and Dior will always do well but the whole rest not so much...

God I sincerely hope so. I want Suzanne back at Self Service! Thanks for the info though, ASF! :flower:

To be fair, I don’t think that Kookai, Camaïeu has ever been the barometer for the fashion industry in France. Maybe textile industry at best but for every Kookai and the rest, there are Sandro, Maje, The Kooples who have managed to define a new way of doing RTW by using the codes of the luxury while proposing a new PAP à la Française..

And the Galeries Lafayette situation is different too. Those Galeries Lafayette aren’t related to the one in Haussmann. They don’t have the same owners/facilities. Harrods a la Française would be Le Bon Marché maybe.

But there’s indeed a major crisis in French magazines and maybe an identity crisis in a way. It says a lot that the only relevant titles today in France are either M le Monde or Elle.

This is supposed to fill the void left by VP. We aren’t there yet.

Franck Durand is good but his aesthetic has been too common in the French fashion landscape.

I'm impressed, very much so. My absolute favourite cover out of the four is Loli Bahia's solo cover, which blows the rest out of the water. It's also giving me some major flashbacks to Carine Roitfeld's Vogue Paris - which I am ALL for. I love the red, Sorrenti's lighting and how direct it is.

Now with Harper's Bazaar Italia out there shading Vogue Italia, I am hopeful Harper's Bazaar France will now do the same with Vogue France (which won't exactly be a hard task given current circumstances). Yes for the rivalry, and yes to this direction for Bazaar France!
