Haven’t posted Korean Bazaar in a long time since the casting is always uncanny valley Children of the Damned— Korean style, down to the hairstyle that is identical on every kpoptart, in advertorials galore. Everyone looks alike— both women and men. Or more precisely, 15 yo girls/boys, and to one another. Because women and men as models are nowhere to be found in the pages of Korean fashion publications. It’s utterly fascinating and unnervingly interesting as a guidebook to a fetish standard of beauty that’s so blatantly, creepily infantilizing to such extremes in these last several years, I wonder when it’ll burst and come spiralling down. It’s no wonder certain bluechip brands will produce a completely different campaign for Korea with their stars than they do for the rest of the consumer world.
The impressive factor about Bazaar Korea is that it's so defiantly Korean at a time when Western publications and even some Asian ones, have given up their national identity to fit into some global narrative and POV. Surprisingly, Kate’s story is included in this issue— which is hilariously so out of place. 308 pages.
