As i know Haute Couture is high class fashion. only rich people can afford it.
but is it that simple about this million dollars dresses? btw, why does it cost so much?

Maybe because it's handmade. And I like haute couture becoz they're just very artsy. I mean, not all of them are artsy, but some of them really are. Some of them just keep me thinking, "Oh gosh, how they make it? How they even could come up with it?"

Couture is about exclusivity, creativity and luxury, I think. It's what initially made me interested in fashion. I didn't even know there was ready-to-wear when I found out about the gloriousness of couture... odd story yes
Plus, in less than a month, a new couture week will open and we'll see the results of those couture masters again!

Your analogy works in this way: they both require artists/craftsmen of the highest caliber, the work produced is the pinnacle of their class.

However, it falls apart because one requires far more skill; an engineering background is paramount for the development of high quality automobiles. If you give any idiot the raw materials required for haute couture it is still possible for him to produce clothing (technically not haute couture). Obviously this is not the case with automobiles. Also, let us not forget how truly great an engineering feat Bugatti automobiles are, first and foremost they are race cars.

Also, I hate superfluous light that some here view haute couture in... But I digress.

It's just that if one gives the raw materials to a true designer like Yves Saint Laurent , and combine that with the the sheer craftsmanship and expertise in confection of his atelier , the result for me would equal in artistic mastery the creation of a hand-built automobile by the Bugatti company .

I'm not too much of a car buff , as my chosen mode of transport is only an automatic Seat Arosa , but I do certainly appreciate that the engineering skills essential to build a Bugatti are somewhat different from those of the plumassier or tailor .

As a matter of fact , I think that , however unfortunately , couture is a dying art , not really appropriate to the modern age , whereas engineering skills are forever at a premium , and all the more relevant to industry and commerce , especially in the days of dying automobile marques like MG/Rover .

But pace those fans of alta moda on TFS , let's not decry the art of the couturier , no matter HOW much one feels that the profession is maligned and sullied by the likes of charlatans like John Galliano .

IMHO, the people who are in charge of declaring who should be Haute Couture should be a little bit more lax about their rules.
