Okay, I know this sounds really dumb, but I just finished reading The Devil Wears Prada, and according to the narrator, all the women working at the fictitious fashion magazine were all 5'10" and up. Is it true that even to be a journalist or editor at a high fashion magazine that you need to be exceptionally tall? I'm 5'10", but say for example both myself and someone who was 5'6" were equally qualified, would I get the job over her?

I know, I know. Terribly stupid question. I just had to know.

I have heard that it's just the "thing" of that well known editor-in-cheif of the well know American fashion magazine ... that her staff look like models. I've heard that she does insist that they be very slim and well dressed but not the height thing. But then, I'm not really close to that world ... I'm stuck in L.A. with minor celebs and commercial work ... so I don't really know if this is all true or not.

I don't think that it applies on most fashion magazines.

But studies show that being tall and attractive help you advance in any business if you have the rest of what it takes. The public perceives that tall, fit people are more proficient, intelligent, powerfull, etc. Not true, at all .... but that perception is out there.

Unless they were 'heightist' (yes I believe I just made that up) it wouldn't be an issue, in terms of looks if someone is equally qualified but one is better presented then obviously they'll take the better presented one, as they're more likely to look proffessional and be taken seriously. But height has nothing to do with the issue.

Sad but true...there is a lot of descrimination in the industry based on the way people look. But then again we are working in fashion, which is about making people feel less than adequate so they will want to buy your product to "fix" themselves.

Sometimes I wonder what I'm doing with my career...(weep!) hahaha...
