From what I can gather, they're pushing it back, not because of production problems but the fact that original December 2012 release slot is becoming very crowded. Warner Bros are handling both Man of Steel & The Hobbit and they've decided to not to push both, especially as they slot will be filled with Django Unchained & The Lone Ranger as it stands. Honestly I don't really know they thought a Christmas release would be a goer anyway, it's much more of a summer movie and the gap potentially between The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spiderman, The Avengers will serve the film much better anyway, even if it does put it against the new Thor & Iron Man films, I think it will dominate.
