Hilary Rhoda engaged to Sean Avery

Sorry ladies, Sean Avery is off the market!

The former NHL star and his model girlfriend of three years, Hilary Rhoda, "are very happy to announce our engagement," the couple tells PEOPLE exclusively.

"We are excited to plan the most beautiful and fun wedding that we could ever imagine," they also said.

Avery and Rhoda began dating in 2010 and were reportedly on and off before becoming more serious about their romance in the spring of 2013.



The pair are planning to wed sometime next year and are "thinking of Jamaica," according to a source.

Avery, 33 – who played for the Detroit Red Wings, the Los Angeles Kings, the Dallas Stars and the New York Rangers during his 12-year NHL career – is also a former Vogue intern.

His bride-to-be, 26, is best known for her work with Estée Lauder and appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

She can do so much better IMO. I hated him as a hockey player.

All I know about him is he dates a lot of famous women and most consider him to be a major douche.

I didn't even know they were together especially since it's rumoured he's going out with that Andy Cohen guy. No one ever mentions Hilary.

I wonder if there is more to Avery then meets the eye. He was a pretty mediocre player. It's his 'most hated guy in the NHL' persona that made him famous. Otherwise, he'd be just another hockey dude. It may be nothing more then smart marketing, in effort to secure something cool in his post-hockey life. I think Hilary is too smart to go for a douchebag...

She has always seemed very together and down to earth while he's a bit of a loose cannon (but ALways seen partying with models).
