Holiday Magazine S/S 2025: The Zurich Issue

i feel like, new york, zurich, detroit aren't really what i want to see from 'holiday' like it fit so much better when it was egypt, capri, bhutan etc.

this magazine is already so high brow, slightly snobish, did they absolutely need to do a zurich issue?

Well I would not agree with you at all!

You see American media is always very negative and rarely they show positive changes. In the case of Detroit I don’t know how much you know, but a city with a bad reputation is changing drastically.

First, all of abandoned car companies are being converted into a very modern high tech companies, a lot of Canadians are coming to work there bcs the border is right there. Detroit is fastest growing american city with rise of organic farms, all around city area and so called “Greek Town” Downtown has best food and restaurants that are becoming worldwide known. Also party scene is amazing, there is something for everybody, I mean it’s Motown we are talking about.

Not to mention that Gucci open the biggest store in North America in Detroit wanting to prove Detroit is changing. As for the crime, Detroit is no longer on the map as the most dangerous, that title holder is now Chicago, unfortunately.

So I know what the Editors of Holiday are trying to do. I love this magazine and fully supporting it. All three Zurich covers are on their way to my Holiday Collection. ❤️

detroit's comeback is welll well documented, in american media, bruce weber was all about detroit about a decade pre the holiday magazine issue actually-- im actually placing it in the same bucket as zurich here so please dont take it that im bashing detroit? i just think the magazine's concept works imo when theyre picking a sort of typical or even low brow/expected holiday place and putting a high brow spin on it rather than picking a high brow destination to show through a high brow lens, like this zurich issue, the detroit issue, a lot of the content could just be WSJ or T magazine really

Fair point but they did do Kathmandu, Ethiopia, Egypt and Cuba. Potential themes get more narrow at some point for this mag.
I am curious about their high brow take on Zurich though, Halard cover actually looks quite homely and intimate. I liked the Paris one, very boring of me ik but it felt emotional on the page, like a lot of nostalgia/opinions from the team. Sometimes they take on a place like Ethiopia and it's quite insipid and touristy looking.

Would be nice to see something on South America...they did only Brazil right? can't remember...

^In the late 60's, I don't recall one by the current team.
They'd do well right now for themselves if they did Greenland.

i am very sad to say it since holiday and self service are my fav publications last 10 years, but this is the weakest of their issue ever. covers are lame, Vivienne looks nothing like herself: round face and those teeth like those of a chipmunk. only 3 super pedestian covers. The theme itself is super blank and gives me nothing. Vivienne shootings is not in Zurich but mostly in the studio, 14 shots only. most of the fashion content is taken God knows where — you can shot the same in every corner of the world, these places have no identity at all. Contributors: Senta Simond, Olivier Kervern, Hart Leshkina, Liv Liberg, Deo Suveera and Pamela Dimitrov, Tess Petronio shot dinner with Walter Pfeiffer and her mom Suzanne Koller (this nepo sh*t again). everything is totally forgettable and this album layout with small pictures i just hate it. i would purchase it only out of the respect to their previous state.

I forgot about it...it was good?

would be nice Mexico, Colombia or Peru...

and Canada? they did it?

Since relaunch, they did a California issue but not Palm Springs specifically. Palm Springs is in California.

The only cover that I like features the outdoor painting. Overall, it is a lackluster offering of covers.
