Hollywood Making Milli Vanilli Movie

Feb 15, 2007 — LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Disgraced pop duo Milli Vanilli will soon get a movie made about their less-than-spectacular career, following in the cinematic steps of such icons as Ray Charles and Johnny Cash.
Hollywood trade paper Daily Variety reported in its Thursday issue that Universal Pictures is developing a film about the lip-synching combo, who lost their coveted Grammy for best new artist in 1990 when it emerged that they had never sung on their records.
The project will be written and directed for the General Electric Co.-controlled studio by Jeff Nathanson, who previously wrote the Leonardo DiCaprio crime caper "Catch Me If You Can." He has secured the cooperation of Milli Vanilli alumnus Fabrice Morvan, who has been pursuing a comeback for years, as well as the estate of his colleague, Rob Pilatus, who died of a drug overdose in 1998.
"I've always been fascinated by the notion of fakes and frauds, and in this case, you had guys who pulled off the ultimate con, selling 30 million singles and 11 million albums and then becoming the biggest laughing-stocks of pop entertainment," the paper quoted Nathanson as saying.

Milli Vanilli???........

Those guys weren't interesting enough for a 3 minute news spot.....I'll pass.

You're kidding.....Has enough time passed on this event that it's gone from being tabloid fodder, to readily available punchline, to infamous scandal and into biopic-worthy legend? MY god I feel old.

Just in case anyone forgot the look of these "handsome" guys...

It's a tragedy. What happened to those boys...just shows everything that is wrong with big corporate music. I hope fab is okay with this, he seems like a genuinely nice guy.

It's just so sad that Rob had to die ...it's a fascinating story and I'm not surprised they're making a film about it.

All the hatred when fans found out they weren't singing - nobody deserves that. NOBODY.

I laughed.:D

Sorry. These boys don't deserve nor merit a film based on their lives.I watched their VH1 Behind The Music and the only interesting things happened after they were found out.

And this is coming from someone who loves films based on real people..

It would be great if the movie had sub-titles, because then during the songs people who read with their lips would be syncing along!

I was a little kid when they were big/the scandal broke but I do remember them.

^ This was probably their biggest hit. "Girl you know it's true... ooo ooo ooo I love you!"

^ I remember watching this when In Living Color was on the air and not understanding why it was funny. Apparently, this was made before they were found out, the public backlash and when they gave back their Best New Artist Grammy.

Just for fun, remember this commercial? :

I'm not sure how this movie will pan out because I really didn't find the controversy particularly interesting... so we'll see what happens.

I can't wait to see it! I actually liked their music. I'm sorry, but it's really catchy, no matter who's singing it.

Fab is really really cute....I think it's great that he worked so hard on his voice. It's not really my bag but you can hear it at

http://myspace.com/fabmorvanmusic (i think that's right)

Catch me if you can is one of my favourite movies so I think I'll enjoy this :)

Yeah, but they were real fakes. All this was around the time C&C Music Factory was doing the same thing with Martha Wash--they had some skinny woman in the videos with this huge voice coming out of her. As for Milli Vanilli, I remember not really being all that surprised to find out they weren't singing any of it. Like my grandfather knew the "21" Gameshow scandal was a big hoax long before anyone did, too. You who all bought that crap, you're the fools.

Remember, they won Best New Artist Grammy that year, too! I don't think Milli Vanilli were the laughing-stocks, but any member of the Grammy academy who voted to give them that award, or anyone above the age of 15 who bought their album--you're the fools, not Fab and Rob. That was an amazing performance.

I still remember every word to all the songs, and I thought my best friend's brother was the COOLEST cause he went to their concert... my sister and I made up a brasilian version, portuguese lyrics and all to girl I'm gonna miss you
