How About Jazz?

Oh, I just attended a small concert at a local bar where my friend played with his band (or rather one of them). I had no Idea what I was in for, but it turns out they played some jazz and dapped in some funk.. They played some bossa nova, with their own take on it. Improvising as well.. My friend played the sax. It was really good.. It has made me want do hear some more.. I really am in a jazzy mood ATM.. will look something up in the morning.. ^_^

My absolute favourite is Ella Fitzgerald. I'm a big, big fan of Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis too.

I wonder why isn't contemporary jazz more popular, especially what they call nu-jazz and all the fusion stuff. I mean, if people like electronic music and rock, why don't they like it if you add the word jazz and look at you as if you were a weirdo? Yesterday a friend did that to me when I told her that I was listening to Eivind Aarset.
Surprislingly, they don't look at you that way if you say you're listening to Miles Davies or Sonny Rollins, even if Eivind Aarset suits their tastes better. Oh well, life is full of mysteries.

I love the norwegian jazz scene. I envy you people from Oslo!

I'm not too keen on modern jazz, or styles of jazz like smooth jazz, but I love jazz like Nat King Cole, he's one of my all-time favorites. Love all his songs so much! :crush:

i can listen to julie london, peggy lee(is that all there is?),sarah vaughan, and nina simone all day long....

and alice coltrane! she was so revolutionary!

I like it when vocals from flora purim are involved. honestly I like it better than her own albums.
I cannot find "sandalia dela (on duke pearson's album) " on youtube but it's nice especially.

brazilian flavors from wanda sah and mark murphy too

maybe off topic: the girl (ex-wife) who made miles "electric".

^oooh...runner....i have the sinatra original in my playlist...sooo gorgeous! very different versions too....where sinatra's is incredibly lush and strings are the epicenter this one is brassy and simplified.
