Is a playground for showing idea and creative...but in the commercial, do the brands deal with it? who wears it? beside from the red carpet superstar?

u c thats the thing with haute couture most of it is kina unwearable in the real world. you know what im saying? not all of us walk down the red carpet every week now do we? and you cant exactly pop into the grocery in a $20000 dior couture pieice on now can you. i think its more of a playground where the designers can express their creativity but just for the runway really.

I was watching a show the other day that said the market for couture has gotten smaller and smaller. There is still the very wealthy European socialites that buy it, and the women of status who can afford it (non celebrities) and love to wear it to fancy balls and stuff, but there are fewer and fewer people who actually see the purpose of buying it. It sure is amazing to look at though- Art indeed!

I was watching the episode of Oprah where she had Andre Leon Tally (tallie, sorrie. sp) and they were talking about the Valentino couture show and how they were incredible pieces of art but only nobody ever buys them. Well, anyway. I do think the pieces are incredibly beautiful. I think Valentino's great and Karl Lagerfield does do some very nice things.

for a long time now couture has caused this sort of controversy, there are several other threads were you can find information about the actual bussines of haute couture, today in the world there are about 200 couture costumers left that pay a minumun of 30.000 euros per garment, but recent articles regarding the subject talked about a possible growth of the clientele... and the diverse countrys this people come from (from Europe, to Brazil...). long live couture!!!!!!!!

I just don't understand where they get the money to produce it.

How do they make ends meet?

They don't always get money. That's why you see couture designers come and go.

There will always be a handful of trophy wives who can throw money away on such trite. From an innovative point of view, it has not evolved to include technological advancements, utilizing the same age old techniques for age old clientale.
It's a dinosaur.
A relic of the 20th Century.
Moving on.

Haute Coture

 I agree that they are beautiful and unwearble in real life (I would wear them in real life.) To me it's just an expression of yourself, though they are outrageously overpriced and hedious sometimes I think Haute Coture is a way of expressing imagination through fashion.

If I had the money Id most certainly own Haute Couture. Id probably buy runway pieces to keep and then donate to museums.

Id have several Chanel Haute Couture boucle pant suits, Gaultier and Dior of course. Those are the only houses worth mentioning.

i just dont get spending $100000+ on a dress... its crazy ( i wish it was $20000)
