I work in a small office where EVERYBODY (10/10 coworkers) smoke and I was wondering how I could avoid getting the smell in my hair/clothes?
Thanks! :flower:

Difficult situation..
In my car i have a little anti cig smell teddy bear which helps if somebody is smoking there (actually it never happens because i don't let anybody :P). I heard green tea is good if you smoke, but now not this is the question.

Your colleagues should go to a separate room to smoke. Here we have a rule, workers can smoke only if they work alone in the room or if they smoke at the smoking area. The only good idea that comes to my mind is to work with open windows... or this anti cig smell air freshener you can buy at grocery shops. :flower:

try lighting a candle...
candles absorb odors...

I live in Boston too mkfan, and isn't it illegal to smoke in an office here?
Or do you mean they smoke outside and bring the smell in with them?

True! My sister smoked like a chimney but hated the smell of cold cigarrette smoke. She used to lit candles. AND an ashtray which has a compartment for water does prevent the stink of ash.

apparently this lingering smell of smoke , in your clothes or in the house is now termed 'third-hand smoke' and also has some effects on the body

I used to hate going out for a night ( until they banned smoking inside) and you come home smelling like an ashtray, have to wash your hair and everything.. At work when a smoker comes in i usually spray glenn20 but try keeping away from smokers always helps if you can and dont strand near them when they are smoking

I don't smoke, so imagine how annoyed I get when someone smokes near or beside me. Argh!

But I can't complain that much when I'm in clubs or bars, cos smelling like an ashtray comes with the package of partying. Heehee.

I just read the article about it on the NYTimes.

The only thing I can think of is go outside or open windows to let the smell run out and let fresh air run through. I found that using product tend to clash with the smell more or I am just using an awful sprayer.

is your desk near a window? wearing your hair up can stop too much smoke getting in it. maybe a potplant or sumthin can help get more oxygen around.- maybe its far fetched, just an idea :P

I would invest in an air-purification device. Do they smoke in the office? If they do, that would be a good idea, along with plants in order to help absorb the stink. I don't know about your state's anti-smoking laws, but here in WA you can't smoke within 25 feet of a public entryway-which is good for people like me who are allergic to the cigarette smoke.
