Ilva Heitmann (Hetmann)

From Digital Diamonds:

Ilva Hetmann from Hamburg's Place Models was in all probability the biggest redhead-suprise that fashion week got to offer the previous season! Totally out of the blue, Ilva walked the runways for names like Marc Jacobs or Rag & Bone in NY, Missoni in Milan and Rick Owens in Paris. Gifted with a distinctive bone structure, flaming red hair and such impressive (and relevant) show appereances, we simply couldn't ignore Ilva and asked her for a little chitchat which you shouldn't miss to read below!

Ilva, what was it like to walk for Marc Jacobs with such a pompous styling? It seems the hair and make-up took hours!
It was great to walk such a big show for sure. There were more than 50 girls who had to be prepared - so the backstage was very busy, especially because of the time-consuming make-up and hair-styling. It took about two hours!

How did you get in touch with your motheragency Place Models?
My motheragent Yannis Nikolau discovered me 2 years ago. But at that time I didn’t think of replying as it wasn't the proper time for me to become a model. I was just too busy with other things. When I finished school I thought it could be worth a try.

Being a model - is it different from what you've expected?
In the television Show “Germany’s Next Topmodel” every third word is competition. That’s why I was a bit scared when I went to NY wondering if there are sympathetic girls as well. But I learned that these prejudices you get from TV are stupid. Like in any other business, there are people you want to have contact with and other ones you don’t. I’m happy to say that I met really great girls from all over the word in the last 2 months.

What was the last item of clothing you bought? Please tell us something about your streetstyle!
Honestly I wasn’t really interested in fashion before I decided to do modelling. Before I went to castings I really had to learn what to wear. Now in this cold time of the year I discovered my foible for boots. I just bought some new ones from Paul Green a week ago when I was back home in Hamburg.

As a child you dreamt of becoming a(n)...
.... housewife! I thought it would be the most relaxing thing to stay at home, when I was about 9. But I cannot imagine not to learn a profession, nowadays.

From your recent work - is there anything we can look forward to in particular?
I did a catalogue-shooting for Escada recently, a shooting for Hermès and a great editorial for Citizen K.

One song that ALWAYS manages to make you happy?
“California Girls” by Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg reminds me of my catwalk-training in NY, which was really fun. But my taste of music isn’t focused on one special music style. I listen to all kinds of music.

Besides modelling - which profession would you like to purpose?
That’s a good question, I'm asking myself as well. I don’t know yet. That's one of the reasons why I’m modeling at the moment. But I hope that I will find a subject that meets my expectations so that I can go to university in a few years.

Thrilled to know she's got a few things coming up that aren't Gala-related ^_^

^I hope so! But it will be ok if this is not a campaign(maybe just lookbook).
At least that means Hermès loves her as it's shooting for Hermès(whether it's a campaign or not).^_^ Maybe she'll get the campaign next season even if she didn't get it this season.

How will you celebrate Christmas?

Ilva: I will celebrate Christmas together with my family at home. At first we have cake and coffee in the afternoon, after that we play pianoand sing Christmas songs while the candles at the Christmas tree are burning, and later there is gift giving and dinner. When we aren’t too tired after all we go to church at midnight.

Do you believe in the “story” behind it?

Ilva: The “story” behind Christmas still gives the people hope and keeps them together once a year. I think it’s nice to believe in something like this. It’s not important if every detail about Jesus written in the bible is true or not.

What is your favorite Christmas dinner?

Ilva: In my family we always eat Fon Due for Christmas. I love this dinner because it’s so delicious and comfy to sit together for a long time.

Are you creative when it comes to choosing gifts for family/friends?

Ilva: No, I have to admit that I’m not creative in choosing gifts at all. At Christmas you have to find something nice for everyone, that’s alot. And usually I start too late with Christmas shopping..

Christmas means…?

Ilva: being together with your family and friends.
models and style

Very Meisel..the hair, the refined bone structure, the sharp nose and also the intensity of her eyes. Very 2000-ish.

Agreed. I thought she would book more this fashion week, she is insanely gorgeous. The hair + eye combo is incredible.

I wish she'd made a bigger splash during Fashion Week. Perhaps if she had been sent to London rather than Milan it may have worked in her favour? The Italian market doesn't tend to favour redheads like London does.
Wish she'd have more editorial work. Ilva is stunning!
