i'm in germany and if you mean indie as defined by the music that you like, the average "indie rock'n'roll" (this - in this case - means stuff like mando diao and the strokes, mostly also the libertines, sometimes wir sind helden, um .. the entire nme english garage scene as well basically) girl will be clad in converses / vans, jeans (either really baggy or really tight), a few layered tops (polkadots and stripes are welcomed), put (depending on the weather) a simple cotton trackjacket or a velvet blazer on top and give them a bag from the army shop (with band badges on it), done. most of the outfit will be in black or brown with red, pink or white threwn in for an accent. plastic beads and cute little earrings (e.g. starshaped) for jewellery, a palestinian scarf (if that's what they are called in english) is common too if you're not only "indie" but also "alternative" (= strongly left-rooted politically), hair is mostly the natural blonde or brown and sometimes coloured black, in a ponytail with a sideswept fringe. you'll see plently variations of this if you walk into any h&m store that has a divided section (actually you'll probably also see them in h&ms without those sections ..). yeah.

everything in "" is a term that i didn't come up with, it's how they're called generally.

for day, MESSENGER BAGS or totes/shoppers with stars, hearts, skull patterns
for night, chanel style quilted bags with chains or leopard print/patent clutches

i think the term 'indie' needs to be defined...
is it like 'alternative'..?
:ermm:...

i really don't hear that term used where i am...
i USED to hear it as refers to music - but that was more than 10 yrs ago...
not anymore...

i think maybe we call that 'hipster'...?...
wannabe cool...trying very hard to be different and ending up all looking the same...?
is that what you mean?...

in london everything hedi slimane puts on the runway for dior homme is pretty much the (london) indie look ripped off and a price put on it

^^ that's true and in fact, IMO, for boys is easier to get this look. It's for girls that I was wondering... :ermm:

the girls all dress like a mix of karen O and nancy spungen (sp?) hair cuts and everything

yep i think hipster/scenester is sort of the same style as the "indie" style. mainly alternative, but i think in this case the indie-term refers the combination of music that is listened and the style of people. s basically hipster is the same term as indie-style :flower:
