Some models get to take it easy in June, but Indira Scott spent the first few days of summer in Paris for a busy round of
Spring 2020 menswear shows. Her first assignment was
Sacai, where designer Chitose Abe cast the Queens native to walk in her co-ed show.
Vogue met Scott bright and early (at 5:30 a.m.!) on show day to get a glimpse of her low-key morning routine. Thanks to her signature braids, her call time was pushed back an hour, which left room for her to give us the blow-by-blow of her daily rituals: among them, a crystals session (she carries clear quartz “for clarity and decision making”), a 10-minute stretch, and tea at a nearby café. As she removed strings of wooden beads from her braids, she revealed she’s always wanted to be cast in a Sacai show: “Chitose is so cool…it was a little intimidating meeting her!”
Backstage at the Grand Palais, Scott snagged a few vegan snacks before catching up with makeup artist Diane Kendal and hairstylist Guido Palau. Post-glam squad and pre-rehearsal, she snuck onto the runway to give
Vogue a flash lesson in catwalk confidence: “I’m thinking about my ancestors and angels being with me so I can be fierce, I can be strong,” she says. Watch the full video for more behind-the-scenes action and to hear how Scott was first discovered.
