And so refreshing to not see a brand ambassador wearing the brand she is supposed to wear on the cover.

The styling and photography is perfection. There are so many images to be used as covers here. And Marine looks great. But wow, what a way to ruin a striking image! I wish the Germans would just throw their hands up and import help from abroad to sort out their poor taste in art direction. Literally every edition across the board, from Numero to Vogue to Glamour, outdo themselves time after time with terrible concepts.

That kind of mid-90s Windows 95 meets MySpace graphics is actually a determined aesthetic that’s consistent in their branding-- as hugely annoying as it is. I’ve always been more put off by most of the American publications with their layouts-by-interns, using a font library from ten years ago more than this brand of retro that German Interview is so keen on.

And I enjoy German Interview’s early-80s-meets-early-90s style in their fashion stories that still gives of a whiff of freshness— unlike the insufferable POP or Another, that is so deep in their faux-80s seriousness as something new that only ends looks so try-hard shallow and stale.
