She seems open to experimenting with her image, but she doesn't do it with the effortless ease of someone like Tilda Swinton. For me, there's something self-conscious about Emma's pictures, as if she spends a lot of time thinking about how to express herself in these editorials, and what it signifies. That comes at a cost, because that degree of 'being in your head' about yourself can make it seem like you're playing yourself as a superficial character, rather than fully being a person with different aspects that you choose to share with the world.
Any time I say something about Emma, I always feel like I'm being unfair, as if it's a crime that an actor wants to bring something to their magazine appearances.
