Iris Van Herpen F/W 2016.17 Paris

She's proven more than enough that she's technically exceptional at what she's doing, however, I find it a bit redundant at this point that the outcome usually results in short and tight dresses - While it's eyecandy to look at, I knew already before clicking into this thread that's what I would see here.

The problem with designers like her, similar to Sandra Backlund, who seems to have already fallen into fashion oblivion a while ago, is that she doesn't seem to see the broader picture of her fashion collection. As a successful fashion line and an acclaimed designer, you have to see not only the micro aspects of painstaking detail but also know the meaning of such craftwork in the broader context, as well as to evolve your language further than those decorative ideas. I am missing that here.

^Well said, I agree. The details are wonderful but the shapes are the same, she needs to evolve/broaden. And it's really HC, not ready to wear imo.

I really wish she's expand her design repertoire beyond tiny dresses, marvelously constructed as they are I'd love to see her take on things like jackets, capes and full blown gowns.
Also the shoes were boring, she did these wild platform shoes last year, and I was really hoping to see something like them again.
