I used to think Issa was pretty desperate and a one trick pony brand. my understanding is that in years previous they did a lot of paid placements in the fashion arena...which made me very suspicious. however i bought one silk issa dress and was pretty impressed with the quality...of course i did not buy it at full price. :innocent:.

the banana republic collaboration might be interesting. depends on what kind of materials they use. if they use cheap materials it will fall flat.

Issa London Creates Collection for Banana Republic

Issa London’s first brush with fame came in November 2010 when Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, wore its royal blue wrap dress at St. James’s Palace when her betrothal to Prince William was announced. The London-based brand is about to raise its profile again with a collaboration with Banana Republic to produce a 40-piece collection launching on Aug. 6. The line will be carried at more than 450 Banana units in the U.S. and about 700 stores globally as well as online. Issa’s designer Daniella Helayel, who launched the brand in 2003, was inspired by Banana Republic’s safari heritage.

‘“We always love animal prints such as zebra and giraffe stripes,” said Simon Kneen, Banana Republic’s creative director and executive vice president of design. “Issa took that and modernized it. I love that the collection is our world and their world.”

Banana Republic Issa London features kimono, wrap-tie and pleated dresses in a variety of prints and solids. African-inspired accessories include gold nugget and cord necklaces, envelope clutches and patterned scarves. Prices range from $39 to $150. Kneen said an advertising campaign targeting print and online will herald the collection’s arrival. (wwd)

at first i was like...ISSA...what?

but then i remembered a friend pointing out the dresses in London and mentioning that the duchess wears the brand...
had totally put that in the 'do not care' box...
...

but i know what you mean about the silk lucy....
it was a very nice silk jersey if i remember right...
sort of a trademark fabric...

agree that without the really nice silk jersey, the dresses aren't really special in any way...

but---people do love that chick and it would be good 'go to work' stuff for the BR customer...

i think it's a good match for both brands and for the customer....

thanks for the info...

Another high-street collaboration with a brand that struggles to give itself an identity in high fashion, even before it dilutes itself in mainstream clothing.

I'm actually wondering how/if people are going to be able to tell the difference between the Issa collaboration pieces and the normal clothing inside of Banana Republic.

i ended up buying the khaki zebra kimono dress. (don't worry i didnt pay full price) the material feels very heavy. its mostly rayon. i think the workmanship is pretty good actually. (the material actually reminds me of the material that DVF used for her wrap dresses in the 70's)

did anyone buy anything? it seems like there was a mad dash for the version of the "KM engagement dress".
