thanks for the additional pictures, mirrra. the moment i look at them i have a film developing in my mind, they are so evocative...
glad you like them too fugfashion.

yeah jamie's work is really cool...some of them are pretty angsty and cold..she takes alot of her own portraits (such as the one sitting on the chair and on the floor messing with the thread)...we used to sit in the same office @ A+C anthology before she got repped by A+C, but she still works in anthology when not shooting.

thanks for the information ong.nicholas and welcome here...
are you a photographer yourself?

oh anna of course i don't mind the comparisons! i'm flattered - this work is simply amazing.

i will have to do some research on her...i love it!

thank you for bringing it in anna and mirrra, ong.nicholas, thank you!

hello anna

yes i am with a graphic design background..currently assisting a few photographers and finishing up school!

Overall too 'emo' for my liking, but I like how she plays with shadows. The last one is amazing!

hey anna

i posted 3 pics on page 11 in that thread..i'm not that happy about those..thats like my very first test haha..i've just been assisting alot so i havent had the time to shoot..plus i am very picky with the styling...those in that shot were from Derek Lam.

^so has that term arrived in photography now:lol:

i think her work is beautiful, i'm personally not fond of the first couple of pics..they seem to lack in something..the idea seems to go good but hmm, looks cheap or something :P , anyway, that's aside cause i really love the rest, i actually gave karma to YourBestFriend yesterday for his avatar and now i've arrive to the place where it all began.

 i know people take avatars from these threads very easily, but reply or discuss ... nooo:innocent:

sorry ybf i know you've been to this forum already

why do you think the first couple looks cheap, mullet? is it that the wood-theme is to obvious?

ong.nicholas, thanks, i hadn't noticed, will take a look at them soon!

i dont know, anna, it's probably because the very first pic reminds me of a Days of Our Lives set!
and the second pic.. because it could've been taken by me.

i think those are fair reasons, you know

Hmm ill have to agree, it just seems very angsty and "Cry for me" although the images are quite nice, especially the stairrail which i did use for my avatar B)

and anna karina, yep i do read alot of these threads but dont always have so much to put input into, in designers and collections especially, i try not to sound stupid so i wont say alot!:innocent:

it's so weird, i didn't get the "emo" thing at all...and i'm usually really wary of that...i don't like it, so i notice it a lot. and i didn't here. it doesn't seem emo to me at all. with the exception of the elderly man and the red shoes, they all are telling me a story that isn't "emo," not that those i just mentioned ARE emo and NOT telling me a story, it's just that i don't catagorise those the same way...i don't like them as well as the others. i love the first 2 with the woods, but they don't feel the same to me as the others. the second grouping are very very much a diptych to me..they go together so well, it almost made my heart stop when i first saw them. i'm really into grouping my work together in diptychs and triptychs, and i'm always very taken with photos (and other types of work) that really interact with each other well, regardless of if that's the original intention or not. out of the ones that mirrra posted i really love red hair, skinned knees, wine glass, haircut and yarn (i made up the titles myself)...like i said, they all speak to me...the others are much more straightforward, sort of portraity type pictures that are really very beautiful, but aren't having the same effect on me as some of the others.

whew! that was quite a critique...but i'm glad i did it..it's making me more aware of them, in some way.

It obviously depends on your definition of 'emo'. I see it as a superficial thing which is used by people to appear artistic or profound; people lying on the ground, sobbing with your head down in a dark corner of the room, blood on the knees. I notice it especially in the languid poses, combined with the subject and props in the picture of course, because e.g. the pic with the pleated curtain is very strong in my opinion and not emo.

The pics in #2 would indeed be a perfect diptych :woot: It'd be much better that way. Separate I don't get them.

Maybe LJ has ruined it for me. Because I saw so many of those type of pictures (2, 3, 4, 5 by Mirrra and the one with the feet and hair) I can't appreciate the real thing anymore :P

I love the photo with the red shoes. The light
(the first pic, post #4).
