BAY GARNETT styled it, Charlotte Tilbury was on make-up and Mary J Blige, Eva Longoria, Sarah Jessica Parker, Nelly Furtado, Alicia Keyes and Keira Knightley are all firm fans of the label – Jenny Packham's spring/summer 2008 show had quite a lot to live up to. As one of LA's leading red carpet designers, Packham works hard every season to ensure the sparkles and bare flesh don't blind us to her talent – and this was one of her strongest shows yet. Opening to the sound of tropical birds, The Cure's Love Cats took over as pink and black leopard prints brought out a ruched cocktail dress and another flowing shirt dress made for a romance on safari. All the dresses were belted in a modern, wearable move and between sequinned leopard print and sexy secretary laced up shirt dresses there were blouses carrying the same jungle prints – one with tigers hiding in the grass proving that, while Packham is hardcore when it comes to celebrity dressing, she can keep it light sometimes, too. Her staple backless, glittering robes, in black with silver beading and grey, were electrifying as ever – and somehow a new gauzy fabric had a more striking, cloud-like movement than the chiffon we’re used to. Incredible pleated lamé silver made up sexy ice skater dresses, while one gorgeous black chiffon backless kaftan had tasselled sleeves and a belt of silver beads on the hips – surely an Oscar contender on the right one of Packham's gorgeous friends. The intricacies of her beading talent is eye-popping every time – a Deco inspired ribbon of sparkle that oscillated around one shorter dress was a welcome new idea, as were bodices of metal rivets that made chainmail of the chiffon it hung from. From fairy tale candy pink chiffon ball dresses to Twenties-style tasselled minis and another built from woven pearls – and black suede trousers teamed with loose, beaded tops for less-than-A-List evenings – this was romantic and sexy in equal measure: made for more headlines, no doubt.
