i-Profile: Jester White
Skin white as snow, hair black as the night, they called him Jester White.
Luke White’s nickname is Jester for a reason and the fashion industry have adopted it as their own. He first appeared on our radar at the autumn/winter 13 collections, a familiar face popping up all over the catwalk from Christopher Shannon to Louis Vuitton. Five short months later he’s ranked #15 on models.com, wearing Kenzo or Stone Island on every second page of every fashion magazine and top of our ‘recommended’ Youtube feed in Versus Versace. The Snow White of the male model brigade, Jester’s an English/Irish Essex lad who’s a new face and supermodel at the same time! He prefers a quiet night in to a big night out and if he wasn’t modelling he could have ended up as the best looking security guard or sexiest painter-decorator in the biz. We catch up with the 21 year old Brit whilst photographer Nuria Rius shoots him off-duty.
How were you discovered? I was walking home one day, when a lady approached me and asked if I’d ever considered modelling, took my details and some photos of me. A few days later I was called into a casting, which I was fortunately picked for. I was then pointed in the direction of Select Model Management who decided to represent me and it went from there.
Why did you get nicknamed Jester? It’s a nickname that I was given by an uncle, because I’ve always been a little bit mischievous in a funny way, it just stuck really.
What do you do for fun? It depends on the occasion really, but something I do quite often on a night off, is get a few friends and go to the local and play a few games off pool, have a few drinks and just have laugh really.
Are you in love? No, not at the moment but you never know if the right person came along.
In a film of your life, who would play you, who would be on the soundtrack and who would play your other half? I think if a movie was made about me I’d to say that, I would like to be played by James Franco, and it would have to be a comedy. If I could have anyone as my other half, it would be Megan Fox, without a doubt. I wouldn’t really know what the sound track would be though, I like so many songs that I wouldn’t know which one to choose.
Who’s your hero? If you mean in the sense of an idol, then I’d have to say my father. But if you talking about super heroes then it would have to be Spider-Man.
Were you well behaved at school? I wasn’t the best behaved pupil. I didn’t really like the classroom environment. I much preferred to be working as I worked on building sites, painting and decorating from a young age, and much preferred to be learning physically, whilst working and earning money.
What made up or slang word do you use the most? I use the term ‘safe’ a lot when saying goodbye to friends.
What was it like shooting with Hannes and Karim for i-D? Really cool, every shoot I do is always so different.
Any last words? Erm, I’d just like to say thank you really to everyone who has been involved in my career so far, and helping it go in the direction it has been and that hopefully it carries on as well. And of course a massive thank you to i-D!
