This season, Jill Stuart looked to the works of erotic photographer Irina Ionesco — and her world of surrealist fantasy — for inspiration. These clothes, however, were anything but sexual. Rather, Stuart played with the youthful yet modern attitude Ionesco’s women portrayed, creating a collection that referenced Sixties Mod in its structured shapes, but juxtapositioned with Seventies fluidity.
Key offerings included a white floral appliqué tunic over wide-legged trousers for a fresh approach to evening, a light-and-airy tiered blush floral dress, and a lavender suede button-front midi skirt that easily transitions from day to night. Overall the lineup had a cool yet feminine ease that was refreshing to see in a contemporary collection.
