“There’s always a sport reference,” Jonathan Simkhai said. For pre-fall, it was “cool girls on the varsity swim team,” which was most evident in the collection’s color scheme — blue and aqua tones in stripes and color-blocked patterns — seen on bonded lace and mesh dresses and separates, some of which featured an impressive mix of embroidery.
Simkhai also hit the mark with a sexed-up take on track pants that featured side cutout detailing. Ditto to his crisp tuxedo shirting and knit crop tops. “Girls come to me for that sexy, cool, sporty look,” he said. “I try to hone in on that.”
