Any fans out there? I love em..
There's a rumour that a film about Ian is going to be shot..and Jude Law is a candidate to play him..

Love love love love Joy Division! I can't believe we didn't already have a thread on them!

I've been listening to New Dawn Fades a lot lately

I love Joy Division... but thought of Jude Law as Ian makes me gag.

Jude, just walk away... in silence...

Big fan here, Unknown Pleasures is always up in my top 5 albums ever!

Jude as Ian? They should get whoever played Ian in 24 Hour Party People, he had the moves down pat!

^ I'll second that drexl, he was good...

Sean Harris according to IMDB.

^^Third that.

I like Joy Division more for how they changed music, then their music itself.
Don't get me wrong, I love them to death, they are an amazing band all around.

No matter how played out it is, Love Will Tear Us Apart is an absolutely stunning song. One of my favorites.

oh jeez - i just snorted, laughing so hard. how embarrassing

anyway, i really don't think jude law should be ian, i really don't. and like, i love them - they're one of my favorite bands, but why do we need a movie about them? it just seems pointless. i'm so jaded

i found a really nice oop copy of the warsaw record at amoeba in sf and i really like those recordings - very crude, but so beautiful. i also really love new order's versions of old jd songs like 'ceremony' and 'in a lonely place,' kind of new-orderified but still really amazing.

do you think a new order topic could be put into this one?

Well, they may be the same band without Ian Curtis, but they still are different right?

Theres just something eerie about Ian Curtis's voice. Does anybody know why he killed himself?

Why does anyone kill themselves? Who knows.
Maybe stress, pain, his wife, his music.
It was on the eve of his American tour, maybe the thought of that was to much to handle. Maybe he felt his life was fulfilled. Who knows.

i don't think the public has ever learned exactly what the note said. i think it's a safe bet to say that he wasn't prepared for the responsibility of being in a hugely popular rock band - he had epilepsy, suffered from depression...i guess kurt cobain wasn't the first to think being a rocker was too hard.

this is a nicely written article about the album 'closer.'

i guess you're right about new order, greg - i've been a fan of both for so long i tend to marry them, but they are totally different bands. i think i'll start a new order thread if we don't already have one

I love New Order's song Temptation, it's lovely.

And I agree, Jude is way too..slick and, I don't know, handsome? to play Ian. He has a completely different 'vibe' if you get me. Maybe the film itself will be called off altogether..I'm sort of hoping it is.

And Von, I agree. Love Will Tear Us Apart I will never tire of.

Joy Division ( :crush: ) are one of my favorites... But of all their songs, Love Will Tear Us Apart is perhaps my least favorite... which I'm sure many would find odd, or crazy.:ninja:

i wouldn't say it's odd...i love that song, but i don't think it's their best. just the best known.

Ugh, I don't like New Order.
But, I love, love, love Joy Division. My favourite band.

I really hope that they don't cast Jude Law if they are making a movie. Gross.

Bah, Jude Law would be horrible playing Ian Curtis. He lacks the mood and feeling convyed through Joy Division. Sounds stupid huh?

Whats a thread without pictures of the band, here are some:

is it weird if I think Ian looks like Lily Donaldson....

Total insult to Ian's memory. (Jude Law)

Love Joy Division - their music brings out so many emotions. I can cry to them, feel uplifted by them & every feeling in between.

'She's lost control' is one of my favourites

He was probably struggling with the onset of psychosis, or escalating epilepsy, and possibly side effects of street meds. You really just need to see a live clip of him from 1979-80 to know that this poor guy is really really disturbed. Also, if you get hold of the book his wife wrote (Touching from a distance), you'll see that he had definite intimacy problems (possessive, insanely jealous and a perpetual cheater (Hey, Jude:rolleyes: )).

My favourites? Atmosphere (one of the best videos ever too), Novelty, Shadowplay and Means to an end.

I'm sure Kurt would love the comparisons but I can't see how him and Ian are very similar -except as rnr Messiahs.
