Judy Blame - Style Innovator

Blame was a discerning magpie, and his work attracted the attention not only of celebrities (among them Bjork and Kylie Minogue), but fellow creators including Comme des Garcons Rei Kawakubo. For her Homme Plus show of Spring 2005 Blame created necklaces out of neon toy soldiers and gold chains. The designer was also tapped to create jewelry for Kim Jones Fall 2015 menswear collection for Louis Vuitton. In 2016, he was the subject of a solo exhibition, Never Again at Londons ICA. By juxtaposing glamour onto punk, Blame was able to alchemize, and animate, everyday bits and bobs” a bit of string, a button, a pin ”and make them sing.

When I found out, it felt like another genuine talent has faded, only to be replaced by more overhyped, gimmicky-driven, fame-and-fortune obsessed lessors. These are the days.

^^Like that RentaLotta girl?

For some reason, I always thought he was black, and it wasn't until a few short years ago I found out that that's not the case.

His accessories look like he took a whole bunch of jewelry and all sorts of random odds-and-ends and threw 'em in a blender. I wonder if that's where that old Subversive jeweler got his ideas from.

Yes eugenius-- Judy's approach to design is very DIY magpie-ish, but also so rich and ultimately polished in his understanding of the history of design going back to antiquity. That really was the undeniable charm and everlasting impact of the Buffalo gang. For all their archaic and style quake aesthetic, there wasn’t a hint of gimmick like the hyped lessors of today.

Someone needs to produce a gorgeous volume of the Buffalo style.

Because most of RIP threads are just .... "RIP!" ... "So sad!" "Too young!" ... etc.

When RIP comments started in the other forums ... we would get complaints because the RIP comments obscured the work and intention of the thread. So, we separated the work from the condolences ... the work stays in D&C or BTL ... Condolences belong in RHI, as a venting thread for fans.

But ... this thread is mostly about his "work" and his influence in fashion (thanks to Softie) ... so I will merge it with his existing thread in Behind the Lens.
