vogue.com.auvogue.com.au has a girl crush on Australia’s rising modelling star
How did it start for you?
I was 15 years old and walking down the street in Rose Bay in my school uniform, not a great look, when an agent from Priscilla’s tapped me on the shoulder. She asked me whether I wanted to be a model and I laughed in her face, which I regret now.
She didn’t have a card so I wrote her details down on my maths homework and waited a few days before I called her back.
So what happened then?
I was really determined to finish my schooling. I want to be a doctor so finishing school was important.
Now you’re 17 and you landed an exclusive with Calvin Klein in New York...
I'll be 18 soon. I had done some modelling at Australian Fashion Week, for Konstantina Mittas and Alpha 60 but this was quite different. I’d met the Calvin Klein team in Singapore with Lauren Brown. After a few meetings I landed the Calvin Klein job. It’s been great to have Lauren with me on the way.
How did you feel before the Calvin Klein job?
I was pretty scared. In fact the way I was feeling would require a lot of expletives that you can’t write down.
Then you were off to London for the Burberry show...
That was full on. The music was pretty amazing. That’s how I judge the shows, by the music.
What sort of music do you like?
Well, my Nine Inch Nails T-shirt is a bit of a giveaway. I also like Queens of the Stone Age and Rage Against The Machine. I used to play the piano but now I play guitar.
Did you bring your guitar with you?
Absolutely. That’s the way I’ve survived the shows. The other girls have also been really great. In between the shows I’ve been trying to get as much sleep as I can. I’ll grab five minutes sleep in the car on the way to fittings.
Have you always been a fan of fashion?
I’m learning as I go along.
Have there been any disasters along the way?
When I’m not walking in a show I’m pretty uncoordinated. I’m always walking into things. I’ve got half a toenail missing and the bruises on my knees are covered with make-up from the Valentino show.
What’s next?
I’m just waiting to see what happens and looking forward to heading home to get some sleep and see my family.
