A top model’s daily Fashion Week schedule typically begins predawn, with back-to-back castings, fittings, and shows booked in 20-minute increments and lasting into the wee hours. It’s a mad dash between gigs, with little room for errors such as transportation snafus (a challenge this week, with heavy traffic due to stepped-up 9/11 security), but once at a show, the sitting around for hair and makeup makes a good read, be it on iPad or in paperback, de rigueur. New York being only the start of the fashion season, staying sane is important not just for looking good, but for keeping healthy in order to get through the monthlong marathon. Here, a look at how Ford’s girls deal:

Q: What are your three must-have beauty products during Fashion Week?
A: Lucas’ Paw Paw ointment. I don’t need anything else.
Q: What bag will you carry everything from show to show?
A: Alexander Wang backpack. It’s a bottomless pit with all the pockets everywhere.
Q: What is your go-to outfit during Fashion Week?
A: Jeans and a T-shirt. It’s my uniform all year round though.
Q: What shoes will you end up wearing the most during Fashion Week?
A: Converse, Converse, and more Converse.
Q: What will you be reading to pass the time?
A: I’m thinking that this Fashion Week, I’ll be doing more writing and less reading. That’s mostly because I don’t have a book to read at the moment.
Q: What tech devices do you make sure to bring along?
A: BlackBerry, iPod, and laptop.
Q: Name one thing that’s always in your bag
.
A: Aside from my phone and iPod, I always have a little black book for writing and, of course, a pencil case.
Q: How did you rest up and rejuvenate before the shows?
A: I went back to Australia for two weeks and just kicked back at home.
Q: Which restaurants or cafes will you frequent during Fashion Week?
A: Anywhere that serves good coffee.
Q: Which shows and parties are you most looking forward to?
A: Alexander Wang and, hopefully, his after-party.
Q: Do you try to take care of yourself during Fashion Week?
A: It’s not that I don’t try to take care of myself during Fashion Week, but I’ve just never been good with time management and easily fall into the trap of running myself into the ground. So I wait until the shows are over, and then spend a few days doing nothing but sleeping, eating, and playing guitar.
