Julia Stegner

I agree Boomer! But although they're job seems a dream job, it is a lot of hard work...It's cool they take time to enjoy it.

Julia's world

She is a control freak ,admits Julia Stegner. And some one who always first thinks "What If...?". That's why it's not astonishing that the model shooting-star, after she had been discovered by agent Louisa von Minckwitz on the October fest in Munich, wanted to finish school first. A mature decision for a 15 year old. Four years later she tried her luck in Paris during the summer holidays: After a few weeks she was on the cover for the French Elle and got photographed by Steven Meisel for the Italian Vogue . The Bavarian became the star of the runways and got booked for campaigns for Yves Saint Laurent and Boss. Meanwhile the 12 year old lives in NY and is one of the most popular faces of the scene. With Vogue she talked about longings and fears , parties and the luxury of the model generation.

Vogue: You just have been at the fashion weeks in NY, Milan and Paris. Do you still enjoy the rattle/ turbulences.
Julia: At the moment I think it's wonderful. I can travel. Meet different kinds of people and earn well. In stressful phases, for example when I don't get much sleep the job can be annoying, like probably every other job too.
V. How many shows do you manage to do on one day?
J: Meanwhile I' fortunately that I'm able to say no. at the beginning of my career I did 6 jobs a day for four weeks. After that you are exhausted. To walk on the catwalk is not that tiring. But the preparations are: the fittings, which are often at night, the styling of hair and make-up. The constant hair-washing, hair drying, to put the make up on and to take it of can be very straining. Sometimes your skin is really sore and burns like fire at the evening.
V: That doesn't sound to glamorous
J: Today most models work very hard and don't have an extravagant lifestyle, like Cindy, Naomi or Linda had. That was a different era, in which the girls walked over the red carpet with their famous boyfriends and became stars themselves. Sometime in the mid of the 90's actresses reconquerd their status of glamorous icons. Since then they wear highfashion, employ stylists and turn the red carpet into a runway. More often designer hire Hollywood stars for their campaigns. For models there is not much left.
V: Did models and actresses switched their images?
J: If it's about naturalness and ease then they did. In the past you saw more snapshots of careless dressed Hollywood stars and extreme stylish supermodels. Nowadays before a show we sit around on the floor with T-shirts and jeans on, talk and play cards. But I know all the stories from the past. With a lot of drama and drugs. I couldn't take drugs because I would be afraid to not look good anymore and to work undependable.
V: What' your opinion about Kate Moss?
J: Without playing down her consumption, I think that the media exaggerates and don’t know the background. I've once met her with her daughter on St. Barth and I think she is a very nice woman and loving mother. She probably doesn't live as excessive as a lot of people think. Otherwise she wouldn't look that fresh with thirty and wouldn't be there for her child.
V: How do you handle the public interest?
J: Cautiously, even there is not much exciting to reveal about me. As I started I talked about my then-boyfriend - a Munich police officer - Meanwhile we broke up. My new partner is an assistant for a photographer and lives in NY - more am I not going to tell.
V: Who do you meet when you go out?
J: For example my best friend Luca Gadjus, who is also an successful model in NY. When I'm in Munich I hang out with my old clique. We play basketball and eat pizza like we used to do. Most people think that all the time I meet famous people. I once met P. Diddy in a club and he asked "How are You?" And I answered: "Thanks I'm fine. And you?" And that was our meeting. I’m not a big networker and partyanimal. Sometimes I wish I wouldn't be so brave. But what can I do? I can't get out of my skin.
V: Why would you. Your life seems perfect?
J: Fate meant it good with me, but I always question everything. I'm too sceptical and I’m always afraid that something goes wrong. And it drives me crazy that the jobs at modelling arise that suddenly that can you can't plan anything. Chaotic personalities can handle that probably better then a control freak like me.
V: Do you feel extradited to your own beauty?
J: In some kind of way, yes. Because I depend on that people like me how I am. When someone says: "Julia is a classic beauty" I don't take as unresented as a compliment. It' important to be exciting and surprising. I'm quite convertible through styling, but I couldn't even dye my hair, because react allergic to it. That's why I'm happy that my mouth is a little bit crooked - my trademark.
V: Are you proud of your success?
J: I’m grateful. For me it's easier to be proud of other people. For example of my dad who is a successful manager. Or of my sister who is the youngest Aufnahmeleiter in the history of UFA.

OTM has adored Julia Stegner/ Women from first glimpse so we were quite pleased to see that her April German Vogue was an all-Julia, all the time proposition. Whether glamorous and glossy or in a state of casual cool, Julia looks every inch the national treasure in her multiple stories.

i can see Julia as a James Bond villain. check out this premise: in the preludes, bond b-slap her jaw crooked, and years later, she comes back and tries to get her revenge on him.
