Her hair was very long at one point and then she cut it , shoulder length now , with more waves/light curls styled in it , .. I think she looks just wonderful

Shooting the Maybelline 2010 calendar​

In den berühmten Pier 59 Fotostudios -in Chelsea NY- waren wir backstage dabei als Topmodel Julia Stegner für den Maybelline Jade NY-Kalender 2010 von Starfotografen Kenneth Willardt abgelichtet wurde und ehrlich gesagt war ich ziemlich überrascht, wie natürlich und charmant sie mit mir plauderte. Auf alle Fälle ist sie seit diesem Interview für mich eine ganz Große, nicht nur an Zentimetern…​

LS: Julia, du bist seit bereits sechs Jahren im Business als absolutes Topmodel, mit Tagesgagen von über 25 000.- €, was hält dich am Boden, du wirkst so natürlich und „grounded”?

JS: Meine Eltern haben mir Festigkeit und Halt in ihrer Erziehung gegeben und meine besten Freundinnen in München sind immer noch die gleichen, die Verbindung zu Ihnen und meiner Family gibt mir gar keine Gelegenheit abzuheben. Natürlich hab ich Bekannte aus der Branche, Heidi Klum ist ein nettes Mädel, aber ich kenne sie nicht wirklich gut, denn meistens hänge ich eher mit dem Team, den Assistenten herum und weniger mit den Models, da ist es immer lockerer. Mein Freund ist auch Kamera-Assistent.​

LS: Was hast du gelernt und was willst du nach deiner Modelkarriere machen, irgendwas in diesem Business, Fotografin, Stylistin, Moderatorin etc.?

JS: Nein oh, Gott, nur ja nicht, ich will mein Abi machen und eine richtige Ausbildung z.B. BWL studieren, ein Topmodel ist doch nichts besonderes, zu dem man aufschauen sollte. ein Arzt, der in dritte Welt-Länder fährt und dort die Ärmsten der Ärmsten versorgt, das ist ein Mensch zu dem man aufsehen sollte, aber nicht zu uns. Ich bin auch deshalb Unicef-Botschafterin, um meine Bekanntheit für etwas Sinnvolles einzusetzen.​

LS: Du bist 1,84 groß, wie stehst du zu hohen Schuhen?

JS: Das ist part of my job, obwohl ich seit ein paar Jahren ein gerissenes Band habe, da ist man übrigens erst jetzt drauf gekommen, renne ich ständig auf hohen Hacken herum, ich muss ja auch sagen, dass ich es schon auch liebe mich aufzustylen: z.B. in Balenciaga, Alexander Wang, Balmain oder Marc Jacobs, aber zwischendurch mag ich es flach, lässig und bequem.​

LS: Hast du einen Profitipp für Stöckelschuh-Starter?

JS: „Learning by doing”: Übung macht den Meister, ich habe mir irrsinnig viel von den anderen Mädels am Laufsteg abgeguckt und daheim geübt…​

LS: Dein Rat für junge Models, um es ganz nach oben zu schaffen?

JS: Auch mal Nein sagen, sich nicht alles einreden zu lassen, ich habe lange Zeit keine „Oben Ohne-Fotos” gemacht und es hat mir nicht geschadet. Das Modelbusiness funktioniert nicht so wie in den Realityshows, dafür gibt es kein Rezept, das ist lustige Unterhaltung, aber hat nichts mit der Realität zu tun, außerdem ist keine Siegerin jemals wirklich in der Liga der Topmodels gelandet.​

LS: Danke für das lockere Gespräch, kannst du uns noch deine persönlichen NY Insidertipps verraten, wo kaufst du ein? Wo trifft man dich?

JS: Ich wohne im East Village, fahre viel mit dem Rad und spiele leidenschaftlich gerne Basketball.​

Meine Lieblingslokale sind: Blueribbon Sushi im West Village und das Esperanto bei mir in der Nähe mit wunderbarer brasilianischer Livemusik.​

Shoppen gehe ich gerne zu Barneys und zu NR. 6 Centre Market Place und ich liebe Vintage-Klamotten, wo auch immer ich sie finde.​
