karma for missDIOR, amazing photos :flower:
I just got my Vogue IT. Wow. Julia is just so gorgeous !

i just saw yesterday a report about kate moss' cocaine scandal on tv. there was also a lil interview of the lovely Julia included.
she said something like: "maybe it's different for the 'older' generation of etablished models, but we as the young generation are not allowed to do sth like this. We got to be fit everytime or we're be out of that business immediately"

I think thats definitely the right attitude!

(sorry for not translating perfectly. first i dont have it on paper and second of course she was speaking german )

I think that's a very good translation, thankyou for posting it :flower:

And I agree about that being the right attitude ^_^ She definitely has a point, since now that models generally aren't celebrated as 'stars' the way Naomi, Linda, etc. were, there's much more emphasis on doing the job you're paid to do and not just party and get in the tabloids etc. :flower:

i understand nothing of german language (it's too complicated for me)
here's the part2

^ Here's a bad (and vague) translation  :flower:

What differences do you see between the models of the 50s, the models of the 60s like Twiggy and Veruschka and the Supermodels of today?
Julia: First of all I think supermodels of that time were more well known than we are today. Everyone obviously knows of supermodels like Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss and so forth, but after that there aren't really any 'Supermodels', except perhaps for Gisele Bundchen. Nowadays we work just as much as them, and I think just as well, but there isn't an extreme 'celebrity' surrounding models any more. Moreover, the business has changed a lot since then: Models in the 50s used to travel with their own makeup kits and do their own makeup/styling, and that naturally isn't the case today. For the job today we have our Agents and Bookers, who book our jobs for us, and we have someone to style our hair and someone to do our makeup, and people to do everything else, manicues, pedicures...

Supermodels of the past usually had a distinctive hairstylist or stylist. (I have no idea whether that was an accurate translation?) How important are Hair Stylists and Makeup Artists today?
Julia: Both are enormously important for our work. They are after all the only ones who change us and give us our different looks - that's why they play a huge part in the shows and Photoshoots - earlier they didn't put in much in put, but by now they do, so now many photographers really listen to the Hair stylists and makeup artists because they are a very important part of the whole process.

Which traits should one bring to the job of modeling in order to have success? Other than beauty.
Julia: Being Natural. You should naturally have a good appearance, which you can work on/with, but I think if you don't have the right Character / personality and right kind of openess (sp?) then it won't work properly as a whole.

Do you think models are born models, or is it mostly learned?
Julia: I don't think that modeling can be learned at a school, and honestly I'm not impressed by 'Model Schools'. On the other hand, you aren't really 'born with it' - no one walks for the first time on the runway like a Pro (a #1), but over time one sees how other girls do it and learns how to move in front of the camera. The more shows one walks, the better one gets, because you watch the other girls - for that you don't have visit a school in my opinion. I've been doing photoshoots for about seven, eight years and I've always found it to be great, I haven't had any problems yet about being able to move freely infront of the camera. I think, when one feels really uncomfortable in front of the camera, then you can't be a model: you can't learn something like that, it just doesn't work and you can see that.

More of my terrible translation :bounce:  Page #2

What would you have been, if you weren't a model?
Julia: I did my subject Abitur and I probably would have studied BWL (a kind of accounting) - what I would have become (professionally) after that, I don't know either. In highschool I was on the career path? (I'm not sure how to translate this next bit, it's something to the effect of: she was at Realschule and then on went to Fachoberschule as the next step of her education)

Can beauty make up for weaknesses? (I can't really work out how to translate this properly, but that's my best go :) )
Julia: No, I don't think so. Every person has their faults, mine is probably that I've never been a greatly self confident person, even though one would think that through modeling one would become extremely self confident. But I'm still insecure at times, like when I go to a Club. Also when someone has a bad personality, beauty can't make up for that.

lol I'll translate the rest later if you like, or leave it to a much more adept German speaker
