I'm surprised he doesn't have a thread already! Maybe it's because The Strokes have become [SIZE=-1]too passé[/SIZE]? Frankly I was disappointed by their last album too, but I think Julian has a lot of raw talent and an amazing voice/physical presence in the vein of a young Lou Reed. I love his animated expressions onstage. And of course, he's very pleasing to look at -- especially his eyes.

It's sad that his music has suffered from overhype. Based on interviews, he's a genuine, down-to-earth guy who takes music seriously and isn't just in it for the money or chicks...very unlike the privileged a**h*le image painted by the press. He writes almost all of the music for the band, and spends an obsessive amount of time laboring over each song until it's airtight.

He has a cute personal style too. Not quite the generic hipster outfit that some of the other band members favor (despite the fact that his look has been lumped together with theirs).

I noticed while looking for pics that he kind of favors Ralph Macchio from the Karate Kid and the Outsiders. Tell me I'm not crazy. Y/y?

Funny trivia about Ralph is that he was 22 and 24 while filming the Outsiders and the Karate Kid respectively though he looked no older than 15 in both.

Julian and Nick Valensi, the Strokes' guitarist. They're both hot but I prefer Julian. Nick's too femmy. Also both quite tall. Julian's 6'2" and Nick is 6'4". If I died and went to hipster heaven this is what the boys there would look like

Lol! I can't believe Julian had an internship at Elite! He must have looked so out of place. I know his dad founded the agency, but I read he never lived with his dad and kind of wants to dissociate himself from him. Can't say I blame him.

You're right that Julian has great style. It's slightly goofy and doesn't look like he really cares...which I love.

Pitchfork rarely has anything useful to say, but they had a very apt description of Julian's appeal as a performer: "...as expertly as ever, Casablancas pulls off The Effortless Cool, seamlessly wedding his passion and his indifference." I love that he's both intense and doesn't give a f-ck, a hard combination to pull off. He's at his best in the Last Nite video, even though I was never that crazy about the song. In general, I think his style or attitude trumps his musical talent...he's talented, but not remarkably so. he's a better performer than songwriter or vocalist.

I just watched the Reptilia video for the first time a few days ago (I'm a little behind the times B)). They all looked so hot -- well except Nikolai and Albert, who never look hot. But could someone tell me what's the deal with the super creepy pedo look Albert gives the camera at 2:24?! Sorry I know this is slightly off topic, but I had to ask.
He also seems to be orgasming at 1:48

The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas is to release a solo album, NME.COM can exclusively reveal.

The singer is currently finishing working on his first full record outside the band ahead, with a release pencilled for the autumn. A trailer for the album can be watched below.

The record, called 'Phrazes For The Young' was recorded in Los Angeles, Nebraska and Casablancas' home city, New York.

The album was produced by Jason Lader, with additional production from Bright Eyes' Mike Mogis.

Tracks slated for 'Phrazes For The Young', include 'River Of Brake Lights', 'Glass', and 'Ludlow St'.

Casablancas - who issued the illustration pictured - is set to play a "specials series" of US dates, ahead of a solo tour later in 2009.
