I actually feel bad for Julien Macdonald. He tries so hard, but is so out of touch with how women actually dress. There are two pieces here that I love (the black padded jacket with studded/spiked shoulders and the black shredded minidress on McNeil), but that does not make any of this relevant or tasteful. He's doing an 80's vision of the future which lends itself to all sorts of fabulosity, but he lacks the edge and a subversive intellectual strain, which renders him incapable of going beyond the making of period pieces.

I mean, even Donatella moved on from the figure-skating sex-gowns.

^ Not to mention that she did them better to begin with.

He always has been and always will be the poor man's Versace as far as I'm concerned. The fact that for the last few seasons plenty of designers have been toying with all of the things he himself has always been known for, just much more successfully is kind of sad really. Even when everyone is doing short, sparkly and trashy his stuff still winds up looking cheap by comparison.

The slit on the floor length dresses is sexy

But he's not doing anything new, only worse.

i like the first part of the collection, the rest is not so impressive...

He's referencing so many designers in this collection that it is quite ridiculous. And I'm not saying that the designers that he's referencing invented certain silhouettes, fabrics, styles but the fact that this collection is not cohesive at all just makes this look very much like knock offs.

This doesn't really feel like Macdonald?

Macdonald is the diamond studded dress for Shirley Bassey. . .
