Julien Mcdonald, S/S 06 London

Wait... I'm confused. They weren't invited? Peta showed up because of the fur use, as a protest? Not trying to sound stupid and out of the loop-- I just am confused, i'm not a fashion/designer expert here, so if this line is notorious for their use of fur... that's why Petas there?

I really don't see how ANYONE could be for wearing fur is they saw where it came from. But ignorance is bliss, right?

Yes, in a nutshell: that is why Peta is there :flower:

But honestly (aside from the fact that I think rabidly storming runways, even such bad runways, is incredibly rude) given that there doesn't seem to be any fur in this particular collection, disrupting this show seems a bit ridiculous :ninja:

Well that was my thought, there wasn't any fur that I saw.. It would have made more sense to choose a collection with an abundant amount of fur to prove the point. And while I don't agree with Peta's tactics all the time, as I myself am a more peaceful person and don't like using that much agression or force, I really think Peta has no choice in these matters because if they weren't so forceful and outspoken-- no one would listen. So few people care about animal rights as it is, Peta has to be "rude" and unconventional to get people to listen, whether I agree with them or not, it seems to be the only thing that works for them

Actually, PETA has stormed fur-free runways in the past. I remember the Atelier Versace s/s 2002 collection where they stormed the runway, and there were barely any whole clothes, let alone heavy-weight fur.

As far as ignorance being bliss where fur is concerned, I doubt that people who wear fur don't know where it comes from, if that were the case it goes way past ignorance to just plain stupid. I could also comment on how effective PETA's approach to getting the message out is, considering that designers still use fur....

As for Julian Mac.....he's still in the fashion biz????

Why?

thank god he is no longer designing for givenchy.

what a joke. This is worse than that crappola Donatella puts out.

i just saw on the news this "scandal on london catwalk" thing that happened to be mcdonald and the reporters said that he couldn´t care less because scandals are always good publicity, and they acutally are, antena 3 (an spanish channel) would have never showed his collection before... infact they just showed the ones with the protesters on the back or front... at the end i think peta almost did a favour to julien this time.

Really. As much as I dislike fur I don't like the runway tantrums animal rights actitivists pull. It's just distasteful to me and the wrong way to go about things. But for Julien it gaves us something to talk about because the clothes certainly weren't going to.

i think peta has had a problem with julien since he declared he would never stop using fur, which is kind of naive on juliens behalf, hes just being difficult.

as for the extra publicity the show received. it really works both ways, because peta got just as much publicity as mcdonald did.
and the majority of people at the end of the day, will realize that there is simply no need to wear real fur...ironically the fur industry that causes painfull death, is dying.

Why do people allow McDonald to keep designing? This isn't moving forward at all.

And why does peta have to be so goddamn annoying? I honestly want to bash them over their heads with their signs, and perhaps make some leather out of their skin.

i don't get it, brits dress so well yet have a sh*t fashion week:ninja: , go figure....

Just read the Times review of the show. Their verdict - who the hell is going to wear this? Pretty much summed it up for me.
Also, they're suggesting that MacDonald deliberately got Peta to come to help his publicity. Not sure what to reckon of that myself.

There was an item by a fashion editor on TV about how unecessary it was for protestors to storm a summer show when there was no fur used in the show.
Fashion Puss, I wouldn't be surprised if he did, the only buzz surrounding LFW is the Basso and Brooke show, so who can blame him.

If true , mdankwah, then the state of British fashion is worse than I thought. How very depressing :( :ninja:

^There are quite of talented indivuals showing at fashion week but somehow every season they get overshadowed by something else.
