Does anyone know about Jun Ashida?

My mom has several pieces of vintage Ashida...

but apparently people don't know the designer too well.

but everyone knows junya watanabe.

he's not the only japanese designer in the world!!!! :(

ah right, sorry. Erm, PM runner, he's the most knowledgeable japanese resident on the fashion spot.

I don't think i've heard of him before..

i've heard the name as someone who does somekind of haute couture kind of styles, now thanks to jhaime i've seen the style ..not for me, maybe for my mom

but yes, of course there is more in Japan fashion than deconstruction and avant garde designers, this is much true..
obviously here at tFS we have a soft point for 'the unusual' so kindly bear with us dear purexelegance :flower:

the Purveyor to the Imperial Household
this is what would come to mind when not a few people in Japan hear the name.
even if it's not true any longer.

maybe they have been trying to rejuvenate it and some of the stuff shouldnot be so conservative and stiff actually. but I feel they are still haunted by the old image which, today, doesnot always work for the better for them.

I agree with that, their clothes are just so....establishment-looking. I can't imagine people who love Junya Watanabe would also be attacted to their clothes. Talking about Japanese designers, what about Dress Camp (or Dresscamp ?)? I just got to know it recently and it seems to have attacted some attentions, doesn't it?

yeah i guess... so runner,

but some of the pieces that my mom has reminds me of a different version of rochas.

yes
once a decade, some loud and flashy label seems to emarge and win popularity which surpasses expectations, for some reason. like Luna Mattino in the 90's.
btw, is "Kabuki" familiar? the origin of the word "Kabuki" is an archaic verb "kabuku" which means "behave oneself eccentrically, wearing showy clothes etc".
so some people might have something hereditary still.
