HQFor spring / summer 2013 it was as if Juun J created a set of clean, monochromatic looks, and then toyed with them a bit – exaggerating shoulders, elongating sleeves, playing with volume and adding layers. Tailored shorts and baseball caps gave a youthful and casual edge to suits, while the trench coat was recut and reimagined as a jumpsuit or a shirt to be tucked into pants. The title of the collection was DU_AL, the show’s notes explaining “the line between outerwear and innerwear are blurred breaking any preconceived ideas of functionality.”
The Juun J collection was inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s 1948 film Drunken Angel, a fact which explains the exaggerated ’40s silhouette “that is contrasted sharply by slim fitting elements” – a further reference to the theme of duality.
