Paris Fashion Week: Miss me, Kate! Backstage with Canada’s runway darling in Paris.
Canadian catwalk darling Kate King isn’t doing as many shows this season – and that’s just the way she likes it. I caught up with the Toronto native (and our February cover girl!) backstage at the Loewe collection during Paris Fashion Week.
“How many shows have I done this season?” she asks rhetorically. “I couldn’t tell you. I know last season beat this one, and that’s not a bad thing,” she says, as a makeup artist puts the finishing touch on her flawless skin. “It’s been a little more relaxing, which is what I needed. There have been fewer shows, but I think better ones.”
This is her third season on the catwalk, and comes after she appeared in nearly 60 spring/summer 2012 shows.
“Each season I get a bit more comfortable on the runway,” King says. “I’m getting to know everybody backstage better.”
Here at PFW, she’s already helped showcase the Lanvin anniversary collection, as well as Viktor and Rolf.
“(Lanvin) had a real energy,” says King. “It was amazing. Everybody was excited and celebrating Alber (Elbaz, who is marking 10 years as the label’s main designer) and what he’s done with the brand.”
All that pressure, all that attention – in a week where a slip by a model on the runway during Buenos Aires Fashion Weekwent viral, there’s got to be pressure, right?
“No, not really,” she smiles. “I can’t even think of one moment where it was too crazy. I’m having a really laid-back season. It’s been good.”
