Is Piers Morgan plumbing the depths? Now Katherine Jenkins breaks down on his show over r*pe attack
Katherine Jenkins has spoken publicly for the first time about how she was almost raped when she was a student in London. The Welsh opera singer broke down in tears during a TV interview with journalist Piers Morgan as she relived the terrifying experience.
The 29-year-old said she had feared for her life as she was followed while walking home alone after a night out with friends from the Royal Academy Of Music.
Katherine, who was aged 19 at the time of the attack, recalled: 'I was walking across the bridge, near Paddington. I felt someone too close to me and he, within seconds, was in front of me, trying to drag me down this gangway and the police believe he was trying to r*pe me. I remember my purse was there so I knew he wasn’t just trying to mug me. Somehow I managed to get out of his grip. I wanted to kill him. I was so angry about it.'
Jenkins, who was 17 when she won a scholarship to the Academy, said her attacker punched her and threw her against a wall but she curled up in a ball on the floor and he kicked her twice before fleeing with her purse.
During the interview, Katherine also talked about how her experimentation with drugs. Last September she lied in an interview with Piers for GQ magazine, saying she had never taken them, before later coming clean about it.
Telling Piers why she lied to him, Katherine, who has tried cannabis, cocaine and ecstasy, said: 'After we’d had that interview I then went home and was talking with my friend…I was just like "He asked me this question and it doesn’t sit comfortably with me that I’ve not told the truth" and I did have a few sleepless nights about it. I thought "Well, how am I going to rectify this" and I talked to my management and then decided it was best to come clean about it.'
Other topics up for discussion include the star's weight, with her admitting she used to struggle with her body image. Her weight once plummeted to six and half stone when her dieting went 'too far' and she cut out all carbohydrates. But she revealed she is now much a happier with her weight and life in general.
