Interview with i-D Online

i-Profile: Katiusha Feofanova

Friday’s child is fair of face.

That’s not how the rhyme goes but today we’re featuring a real baby-darling-dollface, Katiusha Feofanova, and she must be the fairest of them all. With huge blue-green lagoon eyes and the perfect persistent pout of a teen who’s pretty enough to get away with it, Katiusha is the seventeen-year-old Russian doll from Omsk, wooing the fashion pack. Discovered at the tender age of 12, Katiusha began her high-life young, but has since grown into her looks and her waist length locks, always keeping that wide-eyed fresh-faced appeal. Today she could be a cross between Gemma Ward and Masha Tyelna, two of the most curiously captivating models of the Noughties. At 5”8 she’s yet to put on her runway shoes but she’s still so young and with a face like that she’s headed nowhere but up. i-D online chat to Kat about life as the youngest model in the industry and have a flick through her personal photo album.

How were you discovered?

When I was 12, I came to the model school in Omsk. They sent my pictures to Moscow and when I was 13 I came to Moscow for my first test shoot. That’s how Rush Models became my mother agency and I started to work abroad.

What was it like being one of the youngest models in the industry?

At the beginning it meant saying goodbye to my childhood, to my dear friends, hobbies, but after the first trip I understood that I could easily combine everything. And during the first two years my mother travelled with me so I felt her support and care all the time.

How long have you been growing your hair?

I’ve been growing my hair all my life, but two years ago I cut it more than usual. But now it’s grown again and soon will be as long as before.

Have you ever been tempted to cut it all off?

Yes, in the future I want to change the colour to black and to cut it like a boy.

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was child, I dreamed of being a cosmonaut or a doctor.

What can you not go anywhere without?

I have no special things which I always carry with me, except my phone and a small talisman which is always in my bag.

What song makes you get up and dance?

I love different music and can listen to practically everything; I have no one favorite song. But if I feel sad I can turn on James Brown’s song “I Feel Good” :-)

Have you got any phobias?

I am afraid of the dark and unknown places, cities. Actually they’re not phobias but I feel uncomfortable.

Who is your role model?

In business my favourite model is Sasha Pivovarova. Her photos impress me with their singularity and strong power. In life the main role model for me is my mum.
