at tranoi, japanese brand kaval launched its first collection using antique, 150-year-old japanese fabrics patched together in romantic forms that pay homage to more than 400 years of japanese tradition and skill centered around the apparel manufacturing district of ryomo, where the brand is based. items included traditional mashiko ceramic buttons made locally, textiles once used for kimonos and many indigo dyes.

Incredible details and it's interesting to me, how the clothing looks contemporary although the parts are "old".

I love the fishtail parkas in particular.

the buttons are amazing and this kind of thing is something that has been begging to happen, imho...

i'm surprised there isn't more of this sort of thing actually...
it's a great way to export traditional japanese textiles, etc...

just like cowboy stuff is more desirable outside of the US, this sort of thing should be enormously popular outside of nippon...
it's all of the things that we associate with traditional japanese textiles in a modern shape...
the blues are especially striking, imo...

great stuff~!

I've read that Kenichi Kogasaka plans to collaborate with Paul Harnden next season. Should be interesting to see that.
