Kenneth Ize S/S 2022 Paris

Can someone help me understand the hype behind this designer?

I never find his clothes that intriguing.

A few attractive separates but this is few steps above Tory Burch!

I love how he uses traditional techniques but unfortunately his collections are starting to feel monotonous.

His clothes are good. They are well made and well cut but he has the same problem as a lot African designers coming to Europe…His aesthetic is rooted in Africa, his heritage rather than design.

When I see Imane Ayissi, I see that he is really about a certain type of women, he is inspired by the idea of French Couture but he is working with African fabrics. Someone like Sarah Diouf is much more about about shapes and volumes…
It allows some range in their work.

Here, the textiles makes the clothes…

True, a lot of the time those traditionally woven textiles dont give much room for experimentation. They are meant to be worn in that free form thus seem to limit.
