Killer Vocal Arrangements

The Flaming Lips - Do you realize
The Velvet Underground - Femme Fatale
Lamb - Gorecki

Some Fleetwood Mac...

:grrr:

A lot of songs by The Kings of Convenience...their music is driven by great vocal melodies accompanied with soft quitar sounds

i.e. Surprise Ice, Weight of My Words, The Girl From Back then, etc.

pets

I suggest pulling out your pert sounds LP & listening to the vocal arrangements on 'god only knows' 'i wasnt made for these times' 'wouldnt it be nice' 'here today' and every other song.
I dont think any vocal group can touch the beach boys and many people believe that pet sounds is an LP above all others.

thats not me

Anything on the Beach Boys album Pet Sounds.

seriously buy the making of pet sounds box set.
it has a cappellas of every song and also some outtake versions [like god only knows with a cappella fade] that totally show that brian's vocal arrangements of the BB's pristine voices are some of the best in modern music.

It's funny...I was just thinking about doing that. I certainly will now.

i just came across this thread and like it, so of course i have to add my $.02--some of the new pornographers' songs are smashing vocal arrangements, blend of male and female voices, layering, and a big dose of that power pop exhiliration... some faves:
centre for holy wars
the body says no
the fake headlines

and a tip of the hat to the person who listed almost the shins' entire oeuvre a few weeks back.
cheers!

Brian Wilson/The Beach Boys - anything.

Good call, the "Smile" album that was released last year has incredible vocal arrangements...actually the musical arrangements and orchestration are superior as well, and proof that Brian Wilson is indeed one of the best composers/arrangers of 20th century pop music.
