Honestly, I can see Kiki as Esther, not Dakota.

Oh my gosh my fav book of all time from when I was 14 this had better be goooood.
I think Esther is supposed to be very young e.g. naive, well educated but not worldly.

she's too old, at 34, to play esther greenwood, who is just out of high school in the novel, at 19 years old. dakota fanning is 22, much more in the ballpark. plus dakota did an excellent job of playing a depressive in the runaways. i think she'll be really good in this role, and i look forward to seeing how kirsten does behind the camera too! all that said, given that the bell jar is, essentially, a roman a clef of plath's life i do think kirsten looks more like sylvia. but the book is about esther, so dakota should pull it off.

I was always a bit skeptical about Dakota's acting skills until I saw Night Moves. It could be a lot worse. Anyway, I can't wait to see what she wears to the Emmys.

I know she's too old but as soon as I read The Bell Jar I was picturing Kirsten It makes it pretty exciting that she'll be directing and has co written it. I can imagine an Oscar or two coming out of such a project too.
